In today’s digital world, your network cabling infrastructure is the foundation of your business connectivity. From computers and printers to VoIP phones, CCTV systems, WiFi access points, and cloud applications, every connected device relies on a high-quality cabling system to deliver reliable performance.
At Morecom Ltd, we design, install, test, and certify structured cabling solutions for businesses across a wide range of industries. As Excel Partner Installers, having completed accredited training through Mayflex, we can provide professionally installed structured cabling systems backed by manufacturer certification and, where required, a 25-year Excel System Warranty through full testing and certification of the installed infrastructure.
A structured cabling system is an investment that often remains in place for 10 to 20 years or more. While network switches, servers, and computers are regularly upgraded, the underlying cabling remains the backbone of the network.
Choosing the correct cable category ensures:
Category 5e (Cat 5e) remains one of the most common cabling standards found in existing commercial buildings.

Best Applications
Whilst Cat 5e continues to perform well for many applications, businesses planning for high-performance networking should consider newer standards.
Category 6 (Cat 6) offers improved performance over Cat 5e and has become a popular choice for commercial installations.

Cat 6 remains an excellent solution for many businesses seeking a balance between performance and budget.
Category 6a (Augmented Category 6) has become the preferred choice for many modern commercial installations.

For most new business installations, Morecom Ltd typically recommends Cat 6a because it provides the ideal balance between performance, longevity, and cost.
Category 7 (Cat 7) was introduced to offer higher performance and additional shielding.

Considerations
Although Cat 7 offers enhanced shielding, it has seen limited adoption within standard commercial infrastructure due to compatibility considerations and higher installation costs.
Category 8 (Cat 8) is currently the highest-performing copper Ethernet standard available.

For general office environments, Cat 8 is often unnecessary, but it can be invaluable within specialist networking applications.
